About us
Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Environmental Records Centre (BMERC) collects, collates and manages environmental information and provides it to others to inform responsible decision-making in planning, development and wildlife conservation.
BMERC gathers data from a network of volunteer recorders and professional surveyors and consultants in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.
BMERC staff are Mark Rodgers, Julia Carey and Amy Read.
We provide environmental information to commercial and non-commercial clients via data searches.
Our clients include:
- ecological consultants
- utility companies
- parish councils
- local people
- conservation bodies
- land-owners
- students

We provide our funding partners with regularly updated species and sites information, and undertake surveys of local wildlife sites.
We hold over 3.6 million wildlife records of flora and fauna in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.
We hold information about local sites such as:
- Local Wildlife Sites
- Local Geological Sites
- Milton Keynes Wildlife Corridors
- Road Verge Nature Reserves
We also hold data on NERC Act S41 Habitats of Principal Importance and other important conservation areas such as Biodiversity Opportunity Areas.
Where we collect the data from
We collect this data from:
- skilled volunteer recorders
- the general public
- professionals working for wildlife charities (BBOWT and RSPB)
- professionals working for government agencies (the Environment Agency and local authorities)
- ecological consultants

We only hold data from the Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes areas.
